Introducing the New Telical Carp Rods
A compact telescopic-butt rod range designed to deliver genuine Helical performance in a much shorter transport length.
Free Spirit Fishing is pleased to introduce the new Telical carp rod range, a compact telescopic-butt series developed for anglers who need shorter transport length without accepting the usual compromise in action, balance or fish-playing performance.

Built around the same core carbon philosophy as the main Helical carp rods, the Telical range uses high-quality Hankook and Toray carbons with a matching helical tape lay-up, giving the rods the slim, light, crisp and progressive character associated with the Helical family. The result is a highly practical rod range that is easier to carry, store and transport, yet still feels like a proper performance carp rod when assembled.
The design uses a telescopic butt section paired with a shorter top section, allowing the rods to extend to either 10ft or 6ft, depending on the model, while packing down significantly shorter than a conventional two-piece rod. The 10ft models close down to just 49in / 1245mm, while the 6ft model closes down to only 29.5in / 750mm. This makes the range ideal for mobile sessions, travel, boat work, discreet vehicle storage, short-range carp fishing, stalking, and tight swims where conventional rod lengths can be awkward. The 6ft model is also a particularly useful travel rod, small enough to pack into a suitcase for opportunistic holiday fishing.
As with the wider Helical range, the emphasis is firmly on putting performance into the blank. The refined carbon construction gives the rods a smooth loading action, crisp recovery and excellent control under pressure. The finer tips make short to medium-range casting feel controlled rather than abrupt, while the progressive power transfer gives the angler confidence when playing fish in close quarters or more demanding situations.
Range Overview
The range covers four key models. The 10ft 3.25lb is the natural all-round short-format carp rod, offering a balanced blend of control, casting ease and everyday versatility. The 10ft 3.50lb SU adds extra power for stronger fish, tighter swims and more demanding situations; during prototype testing, this model landed a catfish in excess of 75lb, as well as large carp.

The 10ft 4.50lb provides a genuine heavy-duty compact option, suitable for heavier fishing, travel versatility or use as a short portable spod rod. Completing the range, the 6ft 3lb is a dedicated stalking, travel and tight-swim specialist for close-in hit-and-hold work where maximum manoeuvrability matters.
The build follows the purposeful, understated look of the Helical range. Each model is finished with a DPS-18 reel seat, full shrink handle, matt black ceramic-lined LS guides, black Acetal fittings, black main whippings with red trim around the logo, and a logo butt cap. The LS ceramic-lined guides have been selected for durability and line compatibility, making them suitable for anglers using mono, braid or fluorocarbon
